Northern Hills Golf Course

  • Location: Enid, Oklahoma
  • Type: College Public Course
  • Course Reviews:
    • (9 holes): This course is located on the campus of Northern Oklahoma College-Enid (what used to be the campus of Phillips University). It has Bermuda grass fairways and greens and is well maintained with one notable exception — the lack of marked tee boxes on 7 of the 9 holes. There are few more interesting holes that make use the elevation changes, but most of the holes are pretty basic. It is still a great place for beginners or anyone who wants a little practice, an it is hard to beat the price — $5 for 9 holes. The pro-shop was closed on the day I visited but there was an honor box for payments, which also meant there were no carts available for rent, but that was no problem as the course length makes for easy walking. And there is very little traffic (I saw only two other groups of golfers playing on a Saturday afternoon), which made for a nice leisurely round at an attractive course, with pretty views of the pond and the campus.

The lack of tee markers or score cards or even a course map was a problem. I used TheGrint.com’s GPS app which worked relatively well, but I hope this course at some point replaces the lost tee markers, etc.

  • Food and Drink:  Outside food and drink (3.2 ABW or less alcohol) is fine. This course (being a college course) does ban smoking on the course.
